Knee arthritis?

Having arthritis knee pain does not put you in elite league of people.
So many people worldwide are suffering from arthritis of the knee that it is a global epidemic.

As per the Arthritis foundation website there are around 27 million American people who are suffering from arthritic knee pain.

The same thing applies for countries like Canada, UK, Australia, India, china and others.

So if we see world wide arthritic knee pain is one of the most common crippling disease present out there.

To understand your pain you have to understand how it starts and how it spread or increases.

Let me define.

As we know arthritis= arthro+itis. Arthro means human joint and Itis mean inflammation.

So arthritis means inflammation of joint. And so knee joint arthritis mean inflammation of knee joint.

Commonest form is Osteoarthritis of the knee.

Osteoarthritis of the knee (OA), which is also known as osteoarthrosis or degenerative joint disease (DJD), is a progressive disorder of the knee joints caused by gradual loss of cartilage and resulting in the development of bony spurs and cysts at the margins of the joints.

The name osteoarthritis comes from three Greek words meaning bone, joint, and inflammation.

There are many types of Knee arthritis:

  • Osteoarthritis of the knee
  • rheumatoid arthritis affecting knee joint,
  • psoriatic arthritis,
  • infective arthritis.

There are mainly two types of OA – primary arthritis and secondary arthritis.

Primary osteoarthritis is mainly linked with aging and the "wear and tear" of human life. The older you are, the more likely you are to have some degree of primary osteoarthritis.

Secondary osteoarthritis, in contrast, tends to develop relatively early in life, typically 10 or more years after a specific cause, such as an injury or obesity.

Not every one gets arthritis of the knee as a disease but many people get it from secondary type which is caused by knee injury or obesity or abnormal weight gain.

SO for doctor to do a treatment proper diagnosis has to be carried out and available treatment options has to be explained to patient.
